About Me

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years experience of counselling and supporting adults and young people experiencing difficulties and emotional distress in their lives. I am particularly experienced at working with adults and young people who have experienced complex emotional and mental health problems, and who may not have been offered therapy in the past to address their difficulties. These problems can affect and interfere with relationships, work and managing day to day life. This can result in feeling depressed, anxious and confused. Therapy can help to understand the parts of the self that can sabotage your best efforts and through understanding bring about real and lasting change.

I am experienced in working in private practice as well as working in organisations and institutions for 20 years.

I am also available for supervision, consultation and training for other professionals working with people who face complex mental health difficulties.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the Arbours Association, London and have and MSc from King's College London.

UKCP qualified and registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist, reg no: 00111033

I was the director of a mental health charity for 15 years and have published on providing psychotherapeutic support for people experiencing psychosis and other complex mental health difficulties.

Fees

£60-£90 per 50-minute session depending on circumstances and frequency.

About Me

Psychotherapy can offer a unique experience; a space outside of everyday life and relationships, in which to connect with aspects of your life that may be causing you concern. This concern may be specific and seem quite clear to you, such as dealing with bereavement, relationship breakdown, ill-health, addiction or anxiety, however it is not unusual to seek therapy for more complex reasons that may be harder to define. Sometimes a sense that life could be better, or should not be so painful can lead to arriving here, or a sense that something from the past is blocking your progress. There may be a sense of desperation and despair that is driving your search for support.

I offer a safe, confidential and containing environment, in which together we will work to shed light on your situation, in the hope of finding meaningful and lasting ways of navigating life. This will be a collaborative process involving commitment and courage. We will begin with an exploratory session or sessions to think through whether this type of therapy is suited to you at this time. Having made that decision, our 50-minute sessions will take place at the same time and place each week.

As well as work in private practice, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, which has enabled me to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. I understand and adapt to the differing needs the individual, always seeking to meet a client where they are. If you would like to discuss the possibility of working together, you are welcome to get in touch and we can begin a conversation without obligation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at WPF London. This was a rigorous clinical, experiential and academic training, during which I had the opportunity, over a 5-year period, of working with a diverse range of adults at the busy WPF clinic in London Bridge. I generally work in an open-ended way, although at times it may be necessary to offer time limited therapy.

Having worked as a school counsellor in a large North London secondary school, I am currently developing this work, by doing an adolescent training with the Society of Analytic Psychology (SAP).

As well as work in Private Practice I have spent time working in a clinical setting which specialises in work with people suffering from a variety of addictions, and their families.

About Me

I am a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP). I see children and young people aged 0 - 25. I have NHS experience working in both hospital and CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health service) settings, where I provided brief interventions and long-term psychotherapy for children/young people, support for their parents and consultation for staff. I have substantial experience in education settings, providing therapy for children and families as well as helping staff with their understanding of the children in their care.

I am able to work with children and young people with a wide range of difficulties - including complex mental health problems, autism, physical conditions and those struggling with the day-to-day social and emotional challenges of growing up. Most people will experience times in their lives when they are worried or distressed. In an initial consultation we will explore the ways I might be able to help so that family life and emotional well-being can improve.

Training, qualifications & experience

My doctoral research (Tavistock and Portman/University of East London) focussed on children with autism and their families. I qualified as a child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman and am professionally registered with the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) to work with children and young people aged 0-25.

I have taught on a number of different undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses and have been a placement supervisor for therapists in training. In addition to my clinical practice, I provide supervision for students and therapists, and facilitate reflective groups for parents.
